Tiler Peck Returns to Hometown for Special Bakersfield Sneak Peek Screening of Documentary "Tiler Peck: Suspending Time" and Launch of New Book "XO Ballerina Big Sis"


Kern Dance Alliance is proud to host internationally renowned ballet star and Bakersfield native Tiler Peck via a special hometown event at the Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater on Wednesday, October 22, featuring a screening of her new documentary “Tiler Peck: Suspending Time” and the launch of her newest book, “XO Ballerina Big Sis.” This exclusive sneak-peek preview marks the film’s debut in Bakersfield ahead of its multi-city U.S. tour, with the world premiere scheduled to open the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in San Francisco on October 24th.The film will premiere on the PBS program, Great Performances – Tiler Peck: Suspending Time, on Friday, November 7 at 9/8c (check local listings), pbs.org/gperf and the PBS app.


The October 22 event begins with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy an autograph signing with Tiler Peck in the lobby prior to the screening. Following the film, Peck will participate in an on-stage Q&A session, offering insights into her creative journey. Books will be available for purchase through a partnership with locally owned Russo’s Book Store, with concessions also available throughout the evening.

Tickets are priced at $15 for general admission and $10 for Kern Dance Alliance members, and can be purchased at https://www.bakersfieldlive.com.

This event is presented in partnership with the Kern Dance Alliance, celebrating Peck’s roots in Bakersfield and her contributions to the world of dance.

About “Tiler Peck: Suspending Time”: Tiler Peck: Suspending Time Teaser Film

“Tiler Peck: Suspending Time” offers a deeply personal look at one of ballet’s most celebrated artists as she faces a career crossroads. Following a series of life-altering events—including a major injury, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a personal loss—New York City Ballet prima ballerina Tiler Peck is forced to reckon with the unknown and reimagine her relationship to dance, to her body, and to herself.

A production of Late Autumn Productions, Tiler Peck: Suspending Time is directed by Alex Ramsey and produced by Eric Cook and Garen Scribner with Tiler Peck as an executive producer, the film follows Peck over the course of six years, capturing rehearsals, performances, and quiet moments of reflection as she fights to return stronger, not just as a prima ballerina, but also as a choreographer and creative force.

After Peck returns to the stage, she takes on the toughest creative challenge of her career: a prestigious invitation to choreograph for the New York City Ballet, culminating in debut performances set to a concerto by Francis Poulenc.

Featuring original work by Peck alongside choreography from Alonzo King, William Forsythe, George Balanchine, and Christopher Wheeldon, the film blends vulnerability and resilience with artistic brilliance.

“XO Ballerina Big Sis,” Peck’s newest book launching worldwide on October 21, will make its in-person debut at the event, providing fans an opportunity to purchase through locally-owned Russo’s Book Store and have it signed by the author.

Filled with practical advice, how-tos, insider tips, and lots of love, the book shares Tiler Peck’s insights and hard-won knowledge about everything from the best warm-up exercises to finding the perfect leotard, dealing with burnout, and learning how to dance for yourself. It is perfect for tweens taking ballet classes as well as aspiring ballerinas everywhere.

About Tiler Peck:

Tiler Peck is a principal dancer with New York City Ballet, where she has performed leading roles in works by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and many contemporary choreographers. A native of Bakersfield, California, Peck began her dance training with her mother, Georgia Peck, at the age of two and joined NYCB at

15. She has expanded her career into choreography, authorship, fashion design, and filmmaking, inspiring audiences worldwide.

Jennifer Thompson is a proud Bakersfield native who fell in love with dance before she even started school. She grew up training under the guidance of renowned local instructor Georgia Peck, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion for movement and expression. Jennifer pursed her academic education with equal enthusiasm, earning both her BA and MA in English from National University. For over 20 years, she has worked as an English teacher with the Kern High School District, where ahe has inspired generations of students with her love of literature and language. Recently, she has decided to begin a new chapter-transitioning from teaching English to teaching dance. She is thrilled to channel her passion into helping build and strengthen the fine arts program, where she can continue to inspire students through the transformative power of the arts. In addition to her work in education, Jennifer has proudly served as a board member with Kern Dance Alliance for the past four years. She loves the opportunity to bring dance to her community, spreading joy and encouraging creative expression in people of all ages. Outside of the classroom and studio, Jennifer has raised two grown children who are now pursuing their own passions-a journey that continues to inspire her both personally and professionally. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her dogs, diving into a good book, and-of course-continuing to take dance classes herself.

Marcie Hronis

Marcie Hronis is a distinguished author, dedicated arts advocate, accomplished business proprietor, and renowned interview specialist who resides in the vibrant community of Bakersfield, California.

With a dance career spanning nearly two decades, Marcie honed her craft through rigorous classical ballet training under the esteemed Royal Academy of Dance, achieving the pinnacle of her dance education with a distinction in the Advanced II examination. Marcie’s artistic journey included a passion for modern dance, where her formative training was shaped by the profound influences of Lester Horton and Martha Graham.

As the proprietor of Marcie Hronis Communications, she has garnered accolades and recognition as an award-winning interview coach, serving a diverse clientele across the nation.

Marcie is a published author, having penned the highly acclaimed vegan cookbook titled “Believe it or Not” available worldwide on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Wal-Mart.

Furthermore, Marcie has assumed the esteemed position of President of Kern Dance Alliance, stepping into this role in 2023 following the legacy of Andrea Hansen. Her enduring commitment to the organization is exemplified by her role as a founding board member. Additionally, she has played a pivotal role as one of the co-creators of ADAPTIdance: DANCE + DISABILITY, Kern County’s exclusive adaptive dance program in collaboration with the League of Dreams.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Marcie shares her life with her husband, Demetri, and together, they are parents to two children. Both of their children are engaged in pursuits ranging from classical dance, singing, and piano, to the expressive world of painting.
