Dance Teacher – Intermediate/Advanced Modern

Full Job Description:

Civic Dance Center is looking to hire a qualified and passionate dance instructor to join our faculty. The
candidate that takes on this position will primarily be responsible for teaching and training a dynamic
group of students in proper modern (Graham or Horton) technique in an engaging and inspiring way.
Classes take place in the evenings on weekdays between 4pm-9pm and Saturday morning between
9am-1pm. Successful candidate must be willing to work varying hours during these times. Hours will
vary dependent on experience, enrollment, and ability to teach different levels.

Responsibilities:
-Organize class and make learning a meaningful process
-Cultivate the students’ interest
-Provide leadership and vision in teaching all areas of the dance curriculum, such as techniques, theory,
and performance
-Create and maintain collaborative relationships with students, encouraging them to succeed in learning
-Educate students about the background of the dance form they are learning by providing them with
historical and cultural references
-Guide students to be physically prepared for training with age appropriate stretching, strength training,
and correct posture and technique
-Ensure timely progress and skill development
-Choreograph and rehearse class dances for annual recital including picking a theme, costume, and
music

Skills:
-3-5 years teaching experience
-Show/Commerical/Industry credentials and references
-Strong communication skills and the ability to hold the attention of a class
-Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices partnered with a willingness to follow Civic Dance
Center’s policies and procedures
-Excellent interpersonal skills
-Well organized and committed
-Creative and energetic
-Clean background check and medical clearance
-Reliable transportation, ability to commute or relocate to Bakersfield, CA
