Wanted ASAP: Choreographer who enjoys Fosse and Collaborating
Commitment: 2 nights a week beginning April 4-May 7. Four nights a week May 7-May 24.
Expectations: Professional experience in teaching dance/Fosse style and choreographing for musical theater. Candidate must be able to command attention and provide leadership, while assisting all artists, technical, and administrative staff with support.
Honorarium paid by Stars.
Pippin opens May 25 and runs through June 16.

What is Books in Motion?
Books in Motion is a program that incorporates dance and literacy in a fun, engaging way. Children from all over Kern County will have the opportunity to visit libraries throughout the county and watch dancers perform their interpretation of a well-known children’s book. Children will also learn choreography, dance with the dancers, and make a craft that represents the dance and story they saw. Lastly, children will take their own copy of the story home.
Dance Studios and Dancers Wanted
Kern County dance organizations are invited to apply to be the official Books in Motion performers. Dance organizations will be responsible for choosing a story from the Books in Motion bibliography, create a performance reflecting the story (maximum 15 minutes), and choreograph a 1 to 1.5 minute dance that relates to the story to teach the participating children.
Dance organizations will be given, at minimum, a $650 honorarium for their Books in Motion participation
Dance organizations will be required to:
1) Narrate/perform the book or a segment of the book
2) Provide basic costumes and theatrics
3) Travel to and from event
4) Proof of insurance
5) Cooperate with Kern Dance Alliance as artistic collaborators
6) Choose tour schedule based upon Kern County Library Branches

Art After Dark: MUSEUM DANCES

KDA and the Bakersfield Museum of Art (BMoA) are seeking dance artists to produce an evening of dance for Art After Dark: MUSEUM DANCES on May 31, 2018.
Art After Dark at the Bakersfield Museum of Art is an after-hours art experience featuring fine art, entertainment, and drinks at Kern County’s only accredited art museum. Art After Dark takes place on the last Thursday of the month from February through October.
Dance artists have the option of creating a choreographed work and/or a figurative display.
Choreography: Dance artists are invited to create 5.00 minutes maximum of choreography to be displayed in the gallery space during Art After Dark.
Figurative Display: Dance artists are invited to create a figurative display by posing as a dance-related statue inspired by a painting or sculpture. Figurative artists will be placed on a pedestal in a small space and move very slowly as if they were sculptures.
BMoA will unveil an exhibit by Charles Arnoldi. The exhibition will feature large scale pieces of Arnoldi’s work in the Dezember/Cunningham Gallery. Dance artists are encouraged to be inspired by Arnoldi’s work as they create work for MUSEUM DANCES.
Charles Arnoldi is one of the most significant contemporary abstract painters, sculptors and printmakers of our generation. Emerging out of the booming 1970s Los Angeles art scene. Arnoldi’s paintings are experimentations in color, form and structure. BMoA is honored to host an exhibition showcasing a survey of Arnoldi’s work beginning with the stick constructions and chainsaw wood relief paintings that brought him international acclaim in the early 1970s through his most recent work which is inspired by a trip to Machu Picchu. Dance artists are encouraged to be inspired by Arnoldi’s career as they create work for MUSEUM DANCES.

- Submit dance resume- including 3 references with contact information
- Submit an outline for proposed work: choreography and/or figurative display, song choice, props, costumes, inspiration for art)
- Dance artists must provide their own space for rehearsals
- Demonstrate willingness to assist KDA and BMoA with overall event theatrical and technical elements

Children’s Dance Education and Outreach Event PERFORMER INFORMATION
KDA needs your help in producing this event! We believe in providing dancers with special opportunities to perform in circumstances that are not always available, and the Children’s Dance Education and Outreach Event happens to be one of those special opportunities.
KDA is seeking dancers and dance organizations to provide performances (minimum 1 minute- maximum 3 minutes) and to assist with the children’s dance class. Solos, group numbers, diverse dances and techniques ranging from ballet to hip hop, cultural, folk, and social dances are all welcome to apply. There is no cost to YOU or YOUR organization, KDA simply asks for your volunteered time to make this event great!

A DAY OF SERVICE
The Children’s Dance Education and Outreach Event is a day of service dedicated to our community children. KDA understands that this event may conflict with dancer’s school commitments; however, KDA has created an official waiver allowing dancers to take the day off from school. KDA recommends making accommodations with school teachers and administrators to submit work early.
Need community service? KDA will happily sign off on all community service requests.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Kern Dance Alliance is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Children’s Dance Education and Outreach Event at the Fox Theater on Thursday, November 16, 2017. This special event benefits local children from the Bakersfield Homeless Center, CASA, Garden Pathways, Boys and Girls Club, and other organizations that serve socio and economically disadvantaged children by providing them with an afternoon of dance at one of Kern County’s most treasured theaters.
Sponsored by the Arts Council of Kern, Stria, and the Fox Theater Foundation, the Children’s Dance Education and Outreach Event provides children with a live dance performance, dance class/choreography, and the opportunity to perform on the Fox stage. Additionally, children learn about the history of the Fox and are provided with snacks donated by Grimmway Farms.
